Special effects are traditionally divided into the categories of mechanical effects and optical effects.  Pyrotechnics, prosthetic makeup, animatronics, and live-action weather elements  are just a few examples of special effects .  CGI stands for computer generated imagery, which is the use of computer graphics in art and media. These can be 2D or 3D animations, objects, or renderings.
